Located in the small but delightful town of Brenham, Texas, Blue Bell has its own inspiring story.
It started as a local farmers initiative making and selling butter from excess cream supplied by area farmers. It was called the Brenham Creamery Company. In 1930 the company changed its name to Blue Bell Creameries after the native Texas bluebell wildflower.
Their motto is We eat what we can and sell the rest. Who could resist a tour of a place with that attitude?
And employees enjoy the ice cream as part of their work perks. And they do then sell the rest. And it’s really, really good ice cream.
They also have a roster of innovative flavors, as well as a lineup of flavors that rotate seasonally, so there’s always something to look forward to with anticipation.
Admission Costs (Includes a serving of Blue Bell Ice Cream) General Admission $3.00 Senior Citizens (55+) and Children (6 to 14) $2.00
When deciding the prices of our cones and sundaes we decided on a simple plan. We would price our ice cream what we would want to pay, for the size of scoops we would want to eat.
The August 21 Flicks on the Bricks will feature the movie “The Game Plan” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson”. Johnson plays a NFL Quarterback who gets a small surprise before the big game.

Before the development of modern refrigeration, ice cream was a luxury reserved for special occasions. Making it was quite laborious. Ice was cut from lakes and ponds during the winter and stored in holes in the ground, or in wood-frame or brick ice houses, insulated by straw. Many farmers and plantation owners, including U.S. PresidentsGeorge Washington and Thomas Jefferson, cut and stored ice in the winter for use in the summer. Frederic Tudor of Boston turned ice harvesting and shipping into big business, cutting ice in New England and shipping it around the world.
